We’ve been through a lot lately. The stress in every day routine, the lockdown, the corona virus, rainy days, and cloudy skies. All of this can put a lot of pressure on your mind. The newly awakened spring air, the sun and the blue sky can partly lighten the mood again. But there are also possibilities, for example in your own four walls, to cheat the bad mood. Repaint your walls with colors that can improve your mood each day and promote a better wellbeing.

Colors For The Soul

Each color has a different effect on our psyche and our body, because each color has a wavelength and energy that is typical for it, which is transferred to our body. For example, blue light has a cooling and calming effect, while red light has a warming and stimulating effect.

Already in ancient times, the sick were coated with colored ointments or wrapped in colored cloths. Color therapy is becoming increasingly popular. Here the positive effect of the colors is used by means of baths, color acupuncture, irradiation but also irradiated food and beverages.

Effect of Colors

Farbtherapie. But furniture and lighting in hospitals are now also being adapted to suit color therapy and used consciously to accelerate the healing process.

General characteristics as well as the importance for health and interior design:

  • Red is the color of fire, of love and passion, but also of anger. It attracts attention and stands for vitality and energy, love and passion. Red can activate, warm up, but also heat up. It helps promote a good immune system, circulation, and metabolism. It is used in hospitals for depression, lack of energy, low blood pressure or weakness after childbirth. In living rooms, red should only be used as an impulse, because too much red makes you restless. Red stimulates the appetite and makes you want to have sex.
  • Orange is the symbolic color for optimism and joie de vivre. Orange is a mood enhancer and stands for open-mindedness, sociability and self-confidence. But it can also convey light-heartedness and intrusiveness. Orange helps with abdominal and abdominal discomfort and promotes kidney function. Orange is also used in color therapy when there is a lack of energy, allergies, fights or tension. In orange rooms, sociability is encouraged and cosiness is radiated. Orange is the ideal color for rooms with little natural light.
  • Yellow is the color of the sun. Yellow stands for light, optimism and joy and relieves anxiety and depression. Clear yellow also stands for knowledge, reason and logic. Dirty yellow tones are more likely to represent negative qualities such as selfishness, greed and envy. Since yellow colors have a detoxifying effect, they are used for rheumatism, liver disorders and weak immune systems, but also for digestive disorders, diabetes or asthma.
  • Green is the color of nature. It calms, harmonizes and stands for security and hope. In color therapy, green is used for heart disease, high blood pressure or breathing difficulties. Grief, anger and lovesickness can also be alleviated with green shades. Green ensures creativity, peace, and security, therefore, green is ideal for rooms intended for workspaces.
  • Cyan / turquoise is a cool, fresh color. Turquoise conveys intellectual openness and freedom, but can also appear distant. Turquoise is used for infections and allergies of all kinds and protects the immune system.

Colors and its impact on your health

  • Blue The color of the sky stands for calm, trust and longing, but it can also appear melancholy or careless. Blue is said to have an antiseptic, sleep-supporting effect. It helps with fever and inflammation, hyperthyroidism and stomach problems, promotes language skills and clear thinking. Small rooms appear larger with a blue paint. It is often used in rooms that are used for relaxation, especially in bedrooms.
  • Purple / violet stands for dignity, mysticism and protection. The color of inspiration and art is extravagant and has a pain-relieving, cleansing and detoxifying effect. Violet can appear proud and arrogant, but it also supports concentration and self-confidence and is used for depression and migraines. Purple has a calming effect in living spaces.
  • Magenta / pink and pink are soft colors that, as flowers, are a source of joy in nature. They embody idealism, order, and compassion. Magenta is a protective color and is used as “first aid” for physical and mental shocks. It gives inner freedom and conveys security.
  • White is a symbol of purity, clarity and innocence. The color of ice and snow is also a sign of inaccessibility. White is a magical color that can be used for any other color because its light spectrum contains almost all colors. In our cultures there is actually no negative attribution to white, but in China white is the color of mourning and death. In rooms, white is the ideal combination color. It neutralizes, brightens and invigorates.
